Welcome to the Group’s Social Page.

After many good years service, with many memorable socials, Jon Bates has  now stepped down from the role of Social Secretary to concentrate on fatherhood. My name is Val McCarren. I have volunteered to be Social Secretary but I am supported by a team of enthusiastic social representatives forming a social committee, who will be generating and gathering ideas and getting stuff organized. They are Andy Roughley, Louise Pritchard and Tracy Jones. If you have any ideas for socials please let me or one of the social committee reps know.

We have an exciting programme of activities coming up, starting with fireworks in
Blackpool, a Comedy at the Arena, a Poulton night out, a curry night and a theatre night - and all that before the Christmas weekend away!  Please keep checking this social calendar and our messageboard for full details of all these events. We would encourage you to turn up as it's a great opportunity to get to know people better that you meet on the walks and make new friends.

If you wish to contact us then click on our names and you will be linked to our e-mail addresses.  Alternatively, you call me between the hours of 6pm-9pm on my mobile number which is 07904 375 906.

Thanks, Val.

JUNE

Saturday 26th  June

Brindle Beer Festival - Saturday June 26th
The Cavendish Arms, Sandy Lane, Brindle, Chorley, Lancashire, PR6 8NG
The drill is simple…one pub, one band, fifty real ales and hopefully a few of us from LYPWG! If the weather is nice, we might do a little walk in the afternoon/early evening to another real ale pub called ‘The Top Lock’ where we might see a famous face at the bar.
The band playing at The Cavendish in the evening are called Small World and are on at 8pm. If you’re interested they have a web-page, www.smallworld.co.uk. Apparently they are good if you look at the pub’s web-site.
There is no set agenda for the day. If you fancy coming along then just let us know and we’ll sort out stuff on the day.
There is no train station at Brindle but the nearest station is at Bamber Bridge station which is just over 2 miles away (45 minute walk approx).
For more information on the Beer Festival or the Cavendish Arms then you can check out their web-site at www.cavendisharms.co.uk. If you wish to contact me then my e-mail address is chrissimoncooper@mac.com. Cheers (no pun intended!), Chris Cooper

Friday 30th July to Sunday 1st

 August

Social Weekend - Friday 30th July – Monday 1st August
I thought it was about time we ventured back into Wales for some drinking and maybe some walking!!
For those that have stayed here before, the bunkhouse is very nice indeed just above a pub (which can prove handy!!)

Location: Wales, Penmachno, Betws-y-coed
Accomodation The eagles bunkhouse in Penmacho.

In The Heart of Snowdonia, a Luxury Bunkhouse in a Real Ale Pub
All rooms are centrally heated with tea and coffee making facilities; duvets, pillows and sheets are supplied. There are two separate showers, a bathroom and two wash rooms/toilets. The bunkhouse has a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. And a drying room.

http://www.eaglespenmachno.co.uk/Penmachnobunkhouse.html

I thought the plan would be to get there on Fri evening, with planned walks for Saturday / Sunday (details to follow!)

The pub used to cater for groups on an evening, but I am told this is no longer the case, however I am informed there is a café that sells pizzas etc down the road, also a pub nearby that serves food.
The Pub down the road could be an option for Saturday evening and I will look at booking a table.
There are also plenty of take away restaurants available for possibly the Friday and very good self catering facilities at the bunk house, so we won’t starve!!

In terms of cost, the bunkhouse costs £29 for the weekend (A bit of a bargain I think you would agree!!)
I am provisionally booking for 12 people, If you are interested please let me know by end May (latest) so that I can confirm numbers with the bunkhouse and ensure it does not get booked up!
I will require £15 deposit to be also paid by the end of May.

If you would like to attend please contact myself tracym.jones@gapac.com or call 07870 496867

Friday 10th to Sunday 12th

December

LYPWG Christmas Weekend - Friday 10th to Sunday 12th December

This year, the legendary LYPWG Xmas Do will be held at the Youth Hostel in the picturesque village of Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. Malham lies between the towns of Settle and Skipton in Yorkshire so is not too far away for most people who live in Lancashire. The village has two pubs where you can eat and drink, and there is also a couple of cafés and a shop for anyone who can’t do without a copy of the ‘Daily Diana’.

The weekend away will begin on Friday evening where you’ll check into the hostel then we’ll have a relaxing drink or two at the pubs in the village.  Saturday we’ll have a group walk starting from the Hostel.  After the walk then it’s party time!  We’ll have a fancy dress party with music, games, quiz and a buffet supplied from Tall Paul.  After the party we’ll have a fancy dress walk into the pubs where there could be some male stripping occurring like there was last year! Once we’ve been chucked out of the pubs then it’s time to head back to the hostel for a little disco.

The weekend’s accommodation will cost you £40.  I need to pay the full amount by September so if you want to come then you need to pay me in full to confirm your place and currently I have only 23 places left.  If you are interested in coming or want more information then my e-mail is chrissimoncooper@mac.com.
