Eskdale and Wastwater – Cumbrian Fells Weekend Meeting Point : Details: Take the opportunity to explore the remote western fells of the Lake District, Eskdale and Wast Water. Based at Eskdale / Boot it is intended to explore the unspoiled fells of the Lake District, remote areas which are not as easy to access. During the Easter weekend we should hopefully bag a few Wainwrights, as well as see sites of historical interest such as the Roman Fort at Hard Knott, and the ancient stone circles at Brat’s Moss. One of the days will also involve a walk to / from the coast at Ravenglass and train journey – the opportunity to view the Lakes from the coast, and walk the dramatically changing landscape.
Accommodation The plan is to be based at Eskdale / Boot. Options include the YHA at Eskdale, where I have been able to reserve up to 18 places (subject to the male / female split). The cost is £19 per night (breakfast is an extra £5 per night if required). Please note that accommodation is at a premium within the area, and therefore the YHA will only hold accommodation for a couple of weeks without payment. If wishing to stay at the YHA, I will require notification and payment of £57 for the three nights by 16th January 2012. There is also bed and breakfast accommodation available at the Woolpack, the Brook House Inn and Stanley House B & B. Tariffs are on average £40 - £50 per person per night. There is also the Boot Inn which is undergoing a change of ownership. They are accordingly not accepting any bookings until the new owners assume responsibility in mid-February If intending to organise your own accommodation at a local B & B, then please advise me beforehand for the purpose of establishing numbers. It should be noted that Boot / Eskdale are remote areas of the Lake District, without main shops. Therefore, unless self-catering at the YHA, packed lunches may also need to be purchased from where you are staying.
