Difficulty: Moderate
Start Point: Ribblehead viaduct car park (Please provide a Grid ref or Post Code if possible)
Timings: Meet at 10.45am  for 11.00am start.

Details:
The walk is about six miles and is a 400m climb on to Whernside. We then walk along the summit of Whernside stopping at the trig point shelter for lunch. It's then a gentle stroll back to Ribblehead.

Directions:
M6 to junction 34
Follow A683 towards Kirby Lonsdale.
After passing through Hornby and then Melling, the road will split in two.
Take the right fork on to A687 towards Ingleton and Settle. Follow A687 to the end where it meets A59.
Go right on to A59 towards Ingleton. Upon reaching Ingleton, take second left following B6255 towards Hawes.
Follow B6255 for approx 6 miles to Ribblehead. You'll see the station and then the viaduct. There is parking around the viaduct.

To help our members explore new walks in different areas, LYPWG have purchased the following OS explorer maps for our new library service covering the Lancashire and Lakes area;
The English Lakes: NW Area OL4, The English Lakes: NE Area OL5, The English Lakes: SW Area OL6, The English Lakes: SE Area OL7, Forest of Bowland & Ribblesdale OL41, Yorkshire Dales: S & W Areas OL2, South Pennines OL21, West Pennine Moors 287, Blackpool & Preston, Southport 286, and finally Chorley & South Pennines 285.
All these maps are the tough active versions, which are laminated. There are only two conditions for anyone who wishes to borrow these maps. You must be an RA member affiliated to our group and you also must be able to forward a deposit in the form of a cheque covering the cost of the amount of maps you wish to borrow (rrp £13.99 per map).
